Now that Thor and Captain America have graced the big screen and pumped our nerd glands, all attention can turn to the upcoming Avengers flick. I want it, I want it so desperately. Heaving chest, panting, pained. The wild card of the flick is the Hulk, being played for the first time by Marky Ruffalo. Is third time a charm? What the funk is he going to look like?

For a company that has seemed deadset on compromising the quality of individual movies in favor of building up to a corporate-climax next summer with The Avengers, I’m often confused as to why they’d be cheap. Rumors about budgetary concerns have plagued the production, cropping up in stories about where they’d be shooting, or getting Norton to come back to play Banner. Now they allegedly could influence how much Tony Stark appears in the flick.

I was first made aware of Paolo Rivera through last year’s Spider-Man storyline “One Moment In Time”, and since then I’ve had a huge hankering for his artwork. Goodness gracious the time I’ve wasted not knowing of his existence! But so it goes. Anyways, Rivera’s artwork is gorgeous, and there’s an insane fuckload of it for free on his excellent blog. Today Rivera revealed an Avengers study he’s doing that’s (according to him) a work in progress:

A new  Thor trailer just debuted, so I thought it would be a good excuse to show a recent study of the cinematic Avengers (they’re mostly based on the  concept art that made its way on-line last year). I haven’t really read any  Thor comics, but I’m still excited for the movie. I like what I’ve seen so far and I can’t wait to see them all on the screen together.

It’s fantastic. Get over there for more of his goodness.

Cobie Smulders is going to be Maria Hill in the Avengers flick. I had no idea who Smulders was until I googled her, and it turns out she’s in How I Met Your Mother…That explains why I had no clue. Nonetheless, according to Deadline:

I’m hearing that How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders has emerged as the front runner for the role of SHIELD Agent Maria Hill in the Joss Whedon-directed The Avengers and that a deal could be done before the weekend is out.

Whelp! Don’t know her, but she is certainly pretty. Also, for what its worth, she looks excellent with hair that resembles Hill’s.

Thoughts? Anyone actually watch that show?

Oh don’t you love shortlists and speculation? I mean, weren’t you getting worried with the hammering out all the details of The Dark Knight Rises would leave us in Speculation Limbo? Coming off of Samuel Jackson stating on Jimmy Kimmel that he’d be screen testing actresses for the role of his sidekick, today we have a purported list.

Watching the Thor trailer today prior to The Fighter got my balls tingling a bit more for the flick. Imma level with you: I would arm wrestle my girlfriend for a chance at Chris Hemsworth. And I’d fight dirty. Dropping elbows, spin-kicks. Eye gouges. A true hardcore arm wrestling match.

Well, when I got home, I found out that Hawkeye is totally making a cameo in Thor. Word? According to Slashfilm, “The Wrap says that Jeremy Renner will appear in Thor as Hawkeye. In some ways this isn’t new, because Jeremy Renner himself mentioned last year that he expected Hawkeye to show up in Thor.”

Well then. I don’t really know how Hawkeye fits into the Thor movie, but I’m not sure Marvel gives a fuck. They’ve been shoehorning the various Marvel characters into other titles since what, the original Iron Man? Yo Marvel. We get it. It’s an interconnected universe. Seriously. We’re nodding our head. Because we get it.
