‘Sesame Street’ is moving to HBO. Apparently the directions there require premium cable

grooving.

Sesame Street is moving to HBO, and I can’t help but feel like that sucks. Taking such a wonderful show for children available on PBS and putting it behind a paywall feels like a green-tinted shade of capitalist bullshit! Just saying.

Petition Is Circulating To Let Bert and Ernie Get Married. Culture War Incoming.

Here’s a culture war that’s sure to get people all riled up. Throwing down the invective in blog posts, columns, and more. Now that gay marriage is legal in New York City, there’s a petition going around asking for Sesame Street’s Bert and Ernie to be allowed to get married.

BEWARE! JELLYMAN!

Since looking it up the other day, I haven’t been able to get Jellyman Kelly out of my mind. Seriously. What does this say about the pervasive power of children’s programming? Shit, what would media theorist Neil Postman say?

In other words, the most important thing one learns is always something about how one learns. As Dewey wrote in another place, we learn what we do. Television educates by teaching children to do what television-viewing requires of them. And that is as precisely remote from what a classroom requires of them as reading a book is from watching a stage show.
