DC Comics announces BOMB ASS diverse post-‘Convergence’ slate of comics

poost-knew52

It appears that Marvel and DC are getting into a little bit of a diversification Arms Race. Works for me. DC has announced they’re nixing the “New 52” label after the upcoming event, Convergence. Following that MEGASPLOSIONVENT they’re unleashing a torrent of new titles. And baby, some of them are tasty. Black Canary drawn by Annie Wu? Fuck yeah. Section Eight by Garth Ennis and John McCrea? Constantine written by Ming Doyle and drawn by Riley fucking Rossmo? Word.

GODDAMN YES: Chris Pratt starring in ‘Cowboy Ninja Viking’

fuck yes

Cowboy Ninja Viking was the short-lived but utterly fantastic comic by A.J. Lieberman and Riley Rossmo. Goddamn insane, with hypertextual, ultra-violence madness, it centered on a squad of assassins, spies, and killers with multiple personality disorders. Pratt is playing the lead Duncan, who yes, is a fucking Cowboy, Ninja, and Viking.

PREVIEW: Spencer & Rossmo’s ‘BEDLAM #1’ looks like gory glory.

Nick Spencer and Riley Rossmo are teaming up for Bedlam, and here be a preview for our asses. I’d snag this thing just for Rossmo’s artwork, seeing that his efforts on Cowboy Ninja Viking were some of my favorite in years. In addition, it doesn’t hurt that I’ve dug what I’ve come across from Spencer.

Images & Words – COWBOY NINJA VIKING #10

Just look at the title of this comic book – COWBOY NINJA VIKING.

Now try to convince me that you’re not interested. What’s that, you say it’s impossible? That’s right. Cowboys, ninjas, and vikings are all bad-ass in their own right and an unholy alliance of the three is nearly flabbergasting. In fact, I’m pretty sure that combining such potent staples of fiction is still illegal in the more fearful states of our union.

But I’m a bit of a narrative daredevil. As such, I look forward to partying with the COWBOY NINJA VIKING.

Images & Words – COWBOY VIKING NINJA #6

COWBOY NINJA VIKING has finally made its triumphant return! I caught wind of this series back in early April and have been eagerly anticipating this sixth issue ever since. Fortunately, the wait has paid off as the comic delivers.

Plot-wise, the reader follows Duncan as he struggles with two different dilemmas. Stemming from the turmoil of daily life, most readers will be able to relate to the first of these predicaments; being torn between two lovers. On one hand, the protagonist is quite interested in Grear as he and her “have industrial amounts of sex that’s like, porn star awesome.” On the other hand, Duncan finds Nix “God-damn alluring in a completely non-threatening manner, which makes [him] incapable of forming coherent thoughts…” With the skill of an excellent TV drama, COWBOY NINJA VIKING takes the reader through the process of selecting a mate.

Images & Words – COWBOY NINJA VIKING #5

Spoilers Ahead. Forreal.

Admittedly, I’m not 100% comfortable with this week’s featured comic book. Most of the time, Images & Words showcases a comic that I could actually describe to another nerd. Yeah, the standard fare’s something along the lines of “In this book Superman fights the bad guys, saves Metropolis, and still manages to meet Lois for dinner.”

But this time around, I’m not quite sure what the hell is going on. I know that there is hilarious dialogue. The characters seem authentic and relatable. There are some bad ass fight scenes. And the art is just goddamn gorgeous.

So without knowing exactly what I’m getting into, the comic of the week is COWBOY NINJA VIKING #5!
