International ‘Captain America’ Poster Features The Red Skull and Cap’s Boys.

After the sort of hogwash that I’ve seen this summer, I’m really looking forward to Captain America. The trailer for it that played prior to Transformers: American Freedom Fuck Yeah! was the best part of that movie going experience. Don’t let me down, Evans et al.

Hit the jump for a new international poster for the flick.

The Tree of Life Works Wonders

Coming to theaters during a summer overstuffed with sequels to big movie franchises, reboots to past successes with built-in fanbases, and potential blockbusters based on pre-existing properties from other media, Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life is nothing less than a godsend for movie lovers. A work of sheer originality and cinematic virtuosity, it attempts to inspect all of existence and humanity’s place within the awe-inspiring cosmos–and brilliantly boils it all down into one immensely perceptive family drama.

‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Green Lantern’ Sales Favor 2D Over 3D. Praise Deities.

The Green Lantern sucks. The good news is that even the people making the mistake and seeing the movie are doing so in 2D. And the Harry Potter peoples, who are awash with glee over the final installment and buying advance tickets? Also getting those tickets primarily in 2D.

Thank goodness.

‘Moneyball’ Trailer Is Porn For Film and Sport Geeks Like Me.

If you like baseball, you know about Moneyball, the book by Michael Lewis about Billy Beane. There’s been a movie based on the book in the works for a while now, and our own Patrick Cooper gave me the heads-up on the trailer. I fucking love it. It’s got the Sexiest Man Alive, on-base percentages, and a little bit of the old human drama.

Hit the jump to check it out.

Russell Crowe To Play Jor-El In ‘Man Of Steel?’ One Cast To Rule Them All.

Russell Crowe is in talks to play Jor-El. If he lands the gig, this movie may fucking rock in spite of Zack Snyder directing it. A cast so filthy is has to be a great movie. Right? Right?

Things I’m Sweating: Up In The Air

The Waiting Room

Up in the Air is a movie comin’ out soon by Jason Reitman starring George Clooney. I hadn’t heard about it until it blew-up at the Toronto Film Festival. And since then I’ve been watching the trailer ad nauseam. People have been jerking it off calling it Clooney’s most charismatic role yet, that it’s some sort of zeitgeist for our times. Whatever. I’m stoked.

On a personal level, I’m obsessed with the idea of movement in our lives. The notion that we must continue moving, striving, accelerating. When Clooney hits the line in the trailer, “The slower we move, the faster we die” I was beyond sold. I’m perpetually fearful of the idea of stagnation. The idea that at some point we stop living and turn our eyes to the sky, resign from really dreaming, and die.

The Treadmill of Doom

I’m a sucker for modern existential crisis movies. Fight Club, American Beauty. This movie seems to have the potential to riff on the same ideas. Who knows. Maybe it’ll suck. But thematically, it’s hitting all the right notes to keep me looking forward to its eventual release.
