Robocop Joins The Cast Of ‘Star Trek 2’. Fantastic.

Peter Weller, also known as goddamn Robocop, is joining the cast of Star Trek 2. Rejoice. Throw your robo-hands in the arm. Get the fives highing, and celebrate the idea that Detroit’s baddest (it was Detroit, right?) will be rocking out galactic style.

‘Independence Day’ Back-To-Back Sequels Happening With Or Without Fresh Prince. ‘Kay.

ID4 is one of the classic movies in the pantheon of American cinema, executed by two brilliant auteurs. That said, it’s been a good goddamn forever since it came out, and there’s talk that sequels are coming. Even if the only Totem that could transfer the franchise’s relevance from one generation to the next decides to sit it out.

The latest trailer for Mission: Impossible – Ghostly Priapisms has dropped and its looking excellent. Straight-up Christmas time fun. I’d see the son of a bitch just for the Batman prologue coming out before it, but fuck I’m excited I’m going to enjoy it  too.

Matthew Vaughn Deciding Between Two Millar Films To Adapt. My Suggestion: Better Source Material.

Matthew Vaughn gave my ass one of the best comic book movies in recent memory this summer when he dropped a quality  First Class  on an  unsuspecting  public. So how’s he following it up? By deciding which of two Mark Millar comic books he’s going to adapt. Matty, I know he’s your friend and all. But you’re better than this. Way better.

Ides of March: No Country For Sucker Idealists, Brah.

Stop me if you’ve heard this story before. An idealistic asshole takes up a campaign only to be ground down into a scabby, hateful douchebag of malaise. It’s a trope as old as dirt, as desiccated as the political foundation that it ridiculous. This is the tale of Ides of March, a tale that succeeds partly because of the truthfulness of the tale. Partly because of the excellent acting. Mostly because it’s a gorgeous proxy for the viewer to nod their head to, leaving the theater commenting on “how true it is”, vicariously critiquing the state of things for a moment before going home to reality television, saccharine sweets and processed cheese products.

It lets us vent our angst at the bullshit that is our sociocultural predicament before going on with our lives.

Contagion: A Quiet, Haunting, Sexy Virus Death Commentary.

I’m a sucker for the post-apocalyptic, the thriller, the commentary on society, and gorgeous cinematography. When I saw the first couple of trailers for Contagion I thought to myself that it looked corny, if not a bit enjoyable. When I left the theater tonight after seeing it, I was giving pause and wondering if anything outside of Tree of Life this year had gripped my brain-piece as hard.

Ridley Scott To Produce and Direct New ‘Blade Runner’ Movie. Oh My Psyche.

It’s been rumored, it’s been spoken about in hushed and sometimes horrified whispers, now it’s looking really-real. There’s a new Blade Runner film coming, and it’s been spearheaded by Papa Blade Runner himself.

Fox Stopping 35mm Print Distribution, Going Completely Digital In Hong Kong Next Year.

I remember when the first Star Wars prequel was being filmed, one of the things Fat Lucas blathered on about was the advent of digital film. I’m sure he made some ludicrous statement like it was going to be everywhere in five years or something (this in 1999), and it was one of many promises not kept. Still though, it has proliferated and is becoming more and more prominent. A testament to this is the announcement by Fox that they’re going entirely digital in Hong Kong next year.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ To Be Released In 2014. Really? Gracious.

I am currently suffering superhero movie fatigue. Like a son of a bitch. Despite this, I still see them. So while I cannot friggin’ believe they’re already announcing an Amazing Spider-Man 2 with the first one almost a year away, I also can. Because it’s going to make enough money to justify it. Because of sluts like me.
