‘Bond 24′ Rumor: Christoph Waltz is playin’ classic villain Blofeld

Christoph Waltz

I’m about to show what an ignorant turd-huffer I am when it comes to Bond. There are rumors that Christoph Waltz is going to be playing Blofeld, who is a classic villain from the franchise. Anddd…I don’t know the dude.

Christoph Waltz all up in ‘Bond 24’

Christoph Waltz

Is there anything you wouldn’t want to see Christoph Waltz in? Oh, Green Hornet you say? I ain’t never seen it but I appreciate your contribution. My personal response? Fuck naw! And I definitely ain’t opposed to seeing him up in my favorite Spy Flick Franchise.

Liam Neeson turned down JAMES BOND. Oh f**k man, c’mon.

Liam Neeson.

Liam Neeson! Bro! Are you even fucking serious? I got problems with you twice over. Now understand that I’m a fan of Daniel Craig, his craggy face, and his rendition of Bond. So I’m somewhat content. But fuck man, you turned down Bond?! To star in Non-Stop? Unknown Taken 2? (I loved the first one.) Damn, man. And if that ain’t bad enough — now you gotta tell us all about the fact that you turned down the role?

F**K ANXIETY: SAM MENDES likely directing NEXT TWO BOND FILMS.

Sam Mendes.

Someone must have mashed-up some of my anti-anxiety meds, and put them in Sam Mendes’ mashed potatoes. The good sir has gone from being like “I want to puke when I think about directing another Bond” to likely helming the next two installments.

CHRISTOPHER NOLAN + JAMES BOND = REAL. Maybe. Sort of.

Christopher Nolan.

Christopher Nolan opined back during some movie’s marketing (Inception?) that he would love to direct  a Bond flick. Well buckle up fuckers, because what was once seemingly outlandish may actually come to fruition. Word on the street has it that the director is in informal talks to helm a James Bondage experience.

WEEKEND OPEN BAR: theme song splendor!

[WEEKEND OPEN BAR: The one-stop ramble-about-anything weekend post at OL. Comment on the topic at hand. Tell us how drunk you are. Describe a comic you bought. This is your chance to bring the party.]

I want you to consider the following premises, keepin’ an eye peeled for similarities.

When a West Philadelphia-born prince ascended his Californian throne, he sang a little ditty. That time when the boxer prepared to avenge his friend’s death and defend America’s honor? You bet your ass he was jammin’ to some butt-rock. And when the world was ushered into the era of Y2J, it was greeted by the dulcet tones of a computerized countdown and processed vocals.

The conclusion: theme songs kick ass.

Hell, if you think about your favorite movie, TV show, or video game, chances are that it features some sort of soundtrack. Moreover, it’s also a solid bet that there’re clear-as-day, identifiable-as-hell themes woven throughout said soundtrack. While you’re experiencing this bit of entertainment, themes amplify the emotion at hand, whether it happens to be jubilation or intrigue or suspense. So affective, in fact, are theme songs that hearing them out of context can still teleport our consciousnesses to the space-time junctions of entertainment-inebriation.

Fighting Sephiroth.
Being devoured by a Great White.
Swoonin’ over a man with a license to kill.

If you count yourself amongst the OL faithful, then some of your life’s most consequential moments have probably been accompanied by a soundtrack. As such, I encourage you to respond to one or both of this weekend’s OPEN BAR prompts:

[What is a theme song you dig?][What would you choose for your own theme song?]

The Dude’s High 5s: Bond Movies

There’s a new Bond movie coming out at the week. You have no idea how much that tickles me. When I was a kid, TNT used to have the occasional “15 days of 007” and play them non stop for a fortnight. It was glorious. I’d watch them all over and over. To coincide with the release of Skyfall, I present to you all my favorite Bond Films. Please let me know what films in the series you all like. Of course if you’re not a fan of 007, please say why so I can Internet fight you in the most juvenile of fashions.

Christopher Nolan Still Wants To Direct JAMES BOND; OH GOD YES.

The Dark Knight Rises  drops next month, and with it brings a segueing in the career of Extradimensional Directorial Pimp Christopher Nolan. Just what will the good sir do? I’d love to see the dude carve out new material of his own to compliment Inception, Memento  and the rest of his filmography. Yet, if he is going to dabble in another’s world, I’d love it to the one of Jimmy Bond.

‘SKYFALL’ TEASER TRAILER: James Bond Doing James Bond Things.

This teaser trailer for Skyfall  is pretty much in line with everything I’ve come to associate with the Daniel Craig Bond  films. It’s gorgeous, with a smattering of explosions and sexuality, and not really clear in terms of plot. I can’t wait.
