Marvel Explains Why They Reveal Deaths To The Media Early. Hint, Money.

Last week, Marvel revealed the death of Ultimate Spidey in USA Today a day before it dropped on shelves. This seems to be a regular occurrence for the studio these days, so the intrepid souls at Comics Alliance wanted to know why. Fucking why.

The explanation isn’t complicated.

‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Green Lantern’ Sales Favor 2D Over 3D. Praise Deities.

The Green Lantern sucks. The good news is that even the people making the mistake and seeing the movie are doing so in 2D. And the Harry Potter peoples, who are awash with glee over the final installment and buying advance tickets? Also getting those tickets primarily in 2D.

Thank goodness.

Jeff Lemire Is Writing ‘Animal Man’, And The Complete List of All New #1s.

I don’t know how in the names of the Lords of Kobol that I missed this. I lamented that Jeff Lemire was no longer writing Superboy. What I didn’t notice, because of various ignorances and stupidities is that he is writing Animal Man. I’ll take that trade any day of the week.

Variant Covers: Frankenstein’s Summer Jam.

This is Covers, of the Varying kind. A comic book column where myself and theoretically other nerds convene to shoot the shit about the comic books coming out on a given week. I vomit up hundreds of words about the titles that are catching my eye, and then you do the same in the comments box. It’s a wonderful community filled with objectification through latex, bi-annual cosmic threats, and the occasionally mind-altering idea.

I love it.

Geeks Ahoy!; Yesterday Was Read Comics In Public Day

As you may or may not know, yesterday was Read Comics In Public Day. It was a joyous day, filled with geeks strutting their geeky stuff in front of the masses. Mrs. Caffeine Power and I saw to it that we outed ourselves as geeks. Well, at least that she outed herself.

I was the big clunky kid wearing the Star Wars t-shirt, I don’t think I could have made it anymore obvious.

We kicked off the day by hitting up the fair streets of Salem, Massachusetts. And in a more rapturous moment, I finally, finally, finally found the first trade paperback of Jeff Lemire’s Sweet Tooth. It was at a comic book shop far from the confines of my regular Nerd Hovel that I frequent every Wednesday. After acquiring said trade paperback, we decided to nerd up a few spot locations throughout Salem. Basically, it’s just me looking stupid and the Future Wife looking beautiful and obliging to my nerd proclivities.

Hit the jump to see how dorky we are.

Grant Morrison Is Down For “Gay Batman” In Batman Inc. Me too!

Here’s the thing, Grant Morrison is kicking off a new title, Batman INC, in which Bruce Wayne is franchising Batman. No, seriously. And adding an entire line of Batmen makes for some interesting sorts of interpretations of the god damn Rodent Guy. One possible interpretation? Gay Batman.

LA Times:

Batman can take anything. You can do comedy Batman, you can do gay Batman…it all works. It something intrinsic to the character. It ‘s so strange and amazing.

Well then! Personally? I’d love to see a gay Batman. I know there’s the Midnighter over in The Authority who is an obvious Batman homage and homosexual superhero. But a legit gay Batman? Radical. Even more radical would have been if Morrison could fit Bruce Wayne into the gay Batman mold, but god only knows how many heads would explode at DC and Warner Bros.
