I was just bemoaning the lack of consistency in Marvel’s titles these days, with a ridiculous amount sporting amorphic titles and numbering. Just bemoaning it! Then I caught this. Captain America & Bucky is becoming Captain America & Hawkeye, but should really be titled There’s A Fucking Avengers Movie, Guys!

My fat brain is filled with too many capes, not enough indies. A smattering of quasi-smaller publishings by actually relatively large companies like Image and Dark Horse.
Whatever the case, whatever the case. My taste is poor, I’m sure yours is better. So when I’m done mash-mash-mashing away on the keyboard and you have engaged in ultimate altruism and answered the bell by reading this mess, I implore you: share the comics you’re buying this week. According to wonderful scientific estimates churned out by eggheads in wunder-laboratories, Marvel regained the top spot in December comic sales. Thankfully!, thankfully without Avengers X-Sanctioned taking the top spot. ‘Cause that comic fucking sucked.

Marvel’s announced a tie-in book for their Avengers vs. X-Men event. Titled “Versus”, it’s being billed as “the fight book”. Remember when you could weave those into a fucking event? Eh?

I’m the opposite of opaque about this: the Justice League relaunch by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee is refried nonsense dog shit. Boring. Tired. Predictable. Doesn’t matter! Quality doesn’t matter. The thing is selling in droves.

Warren Ellis got around to dropping some comments about where he thinks the comic industry should go, and should have already went recently. He stated that comics should go digital-first, but opined that maybe creators didn’t have a taste for it. Then stepped in Brian Wood.

It’s the beginning of the fucking New Year, and I can’t think of a better way to drag the Year of Mayan Doom slithering into the world than with some comic books. Fuck if we like our myths and narratives and actions of creation, let us slather it in some sequential artwork and the occasional uncomfortably inappropriate latex-sliding-up-ass panel of horndog High Heaven.
