This. Is concerning to me. I love The Winter Soldier. But what I also love (loved?) about the MCU was that it was a diversified set of directors lending their own vision and aesthetic to the Universe. And now? Now it just sort of feels like it is the Russo Brothers and their writers’ show.

Strap-in, Whedonites. Say your prayers. Rub your rosaries. For after Age of Ultron we are entering a Post-Whedon MCU. I love Whedon, but I imagine I’m going to take this news more in stride than many. I enjoyed Captain America, and I fucking love Winter Soldier. So I can live happily with this.

Is this news? Or nah? Probably not news. But it’s still fun to think about the potential odd-as-fuck-villains that Marvel may be able to get away with in future movies. Now that Guardians of the Galaxy has demonstrated that our Collective Pop Culture Psyche has been widened to the point of oddity. I mean — give us MODOK. We can handle it.
