Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the New Black when it comes to being at the center of comic book rumors. It’s rumored the duder is going to be The Bats in the Justice League movie. It’s rumored that in this movie he has two dongs, one which shoots raw cookie dough. Now, it’s rumored he may be crossing the line from DC and into Marvel movie madness. If this rumor holds true (and let me tell you I don’t think it will), Batman will be going galactic very soon.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt set pants aflame this summer when he nearly totally donned the mantle at the end of Dark Knight Rises. Almost immediately, people were clamoring for him to continue the franchise. You can almost feel the balls tightening and the labia clenching over at Warner Bros. While Avengers is raking in the glorious money stacks, their only viable comic book franchise just lost its director and lead. Not only that, but the mind behind the Marvel Movie Universe is the dude they nixed from helming a Wonder Woman flick. Alas. So WB is on their grind with the Justice League flick, hoping to ride some of the superteam zeitgeist. As they go to cast the son of a bitch, a familiar name is popping up in consideration for the Bruce Wayne Man.

Want to know how to have a whole mess of fun?

Hide your grandpa’s medicine. Steal it from wherever he keeps it, and then put it somewhere else. Ideally, you’re goin’ to want to go at least two rooms over. After all, geriatric hips are rustier than robot dongs. And remember, you’re aimin’ to maximize your entertainment.

For example, if Grampy’s bottle of pills rests on the bathroom sink, filch that motherfucker and bring it to your kitchen. Once there, turn the bottle upside down and open it up over your dog’s dish. There’s no joy quite like that of besprinkling Alpo with Valtrex. Then, while you’re waiting for your parent’s parent to discover just how badly he’s been goofed, stand guard so as to make sure that Fido doesn’t start snackin’ away.

After all, the dog didn’t do anything.

How is anything supposed to follow The Dark Knight?  Nolan’s trilogy ender will reap enormous numbers of attendees and box office dollars solely based on people wanting another TDK.  Another round of dark, violent and unpredictable chaos in Gotham.  Another villain as jarringly memorable as Ledger’s Joker.  And another story that transcends comic roots and becomes lovingly embraced by the mainstream as a ‘crime saga’.

This might hurt your appreciation of Rises as it nearly did mine.  In so many ways, this film feels like a direct sequel to Batman Begins.  It notably takes the few elements it needs from the trilogy’s second chapter – Harvey Dent’s ‘legacy’, Rachel’s death and Bruce’s need to pass the mantle on – and forgets about the others, rejoining the stream Begins established seven years ago.

It’s awesome that the film feels like a much more appropriate bookend to Nolan’s trilogy in that regard.  My fear was that the runaway success and rampant permeation of the Joker and TDK into popular culture would mean that everything about Rises would follow from, and be influenced by TDK, and only TDK.  Not so.  Not so at all.  I’m definitely still a little dizzy off the high of the midnight venture to see this, and I’m sure I missed many more vital connections to TDK, so take his all as a sleep-deprived first gut reaction.
