I don’t read manga, but the anime adaptation of Akira  is more than responsible for help shaping the warped, bent, broken psyche that I own these days.  Katsuhiro Otomo is the creator of the long-as-fuck saga, and he hasn’t written any long-form manga since then.

Max Landis penned the found-footage superhero flick Chronicle  in something like nine hours. Okay, that’s an exaggeration. But it did it with the quickness and it was pretty hot. Now he’s being given a chance to answer the bell and pen the sequel.

Twilight is a cultural blackhole of vapidity and pseudo female agency, but even with that considered I don’t mind Kristen Stewart. She was cute enough in Adventureland and uh…well, that’s all I’ve seen her in. Good chance I’ll be catching her in Akira.

The live action Akira continues trudging on, after last week’s news that it was indeed alive. And whitewashing more impressively than The Last Airbender. Today some more casting rumors have floated up, and they’re centered around  Commissioner  Gordon and Marla Singer.

Well here is something that I never would have predicted. Zac Efron is reportedly in talks to star in a live-action rendition of motherfuckin’ Akira. Say what?

Another rumor which is making the tracking board rounds today is that Zac Efron has apparently been offered the lead role in Albert Hughes’ upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular anime/Katsuhiro Otomo‘s six-volume manga Akira. I’m not able to confirm the offer, but one source tells me Efron is in talks, while another says that it is “far from a done deal.”

Far from done? Phew. Naw, I don’t know. I never actually expected this movie to get done, so the fact that there’s any sort of talks is impressive unto itself. Efron does come off as a super effeminate, anime-esque character with them big eyes and that gorgeous body and his charming smile and…and…Wait, what was I talking about?

There’s a tasty rumor morsel for you good folks today. Thoughts?
