Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson: A Title Selling Out Isn’t A Good Thing

Eric Stephenson is the publisher for Image Comics, who are the hottest mainstream comics company in my eyes. Stephenson spoke out recently about the “success” of titles of theirs such as Saga  selling out at comic book stores. He definitely dapped it up with those titles, but also pointed something out: selling out sort of sucks.

Watch Joe Quesada show You How To Draw THE HULK In This ‘Master Class’ Video

Back in the day when he wasn’t running what feels like the entire goddamn Marvel Enterprise, Joe Quesada was an artist. A damn fine one, too. His work on Daredevil  during the Kevin Smith run was some of my favorite artwork during those early teen years of mine. Throughout the years as he has inherited more and more responsibility, Dude Quesada’s artwork has taken a back seat. Riffing on a segment that’s part of  Disney XD’s Marvel Universe programming block called “Master Class”, Quesada shows us how to draw the Hulk, while also showing off his radical skills.

Batman Goes Apeshit.

To obtain my undergraduate degree, I attended a liberal arts school in Boston. As such, it was expected that I not only study the things that I’m interested in and want to make a career out of, but a bunch of other random shit as well. While initially seeming like a bad idea, it actually gave me the opportunity to learn some things that I never would’ve otherwise.

During one especially boring semester, I decided to take Computer Hacking 1101: Introduction to 1337 Systems. Although the class wasn’t applicable to anything I wanted to do in the long-term, I learned some cool tricks for stealing government information, manipulating my income tax returns, and contacting Morpheus. But the best thing I learned was how to hack into the SECRET FILES of my favorite companies.

What I now present is an actual document I obtained while hacking away at the servers over at DC Comics. From what I can tell, it is an actual promo poster that is going to be used for what could be the most sensational limited series of all time.

I mean, what a concept! What a creative team! Fuck, just check it out for yourself!

Marvel Continues Teasing Possible ‘ULTIMATE’ Crossover In New ‘SPIDER-MEN’ Promo. 616-U?

Marvel continues to tease the tip when it comes to some sort of crossover involving both Peter Parker and the Spider-Man of their Ultimate universe. I can’t recall a time when they’ve riffed on this sort of interaction between the two universes, but if they’re going to do it they might as well do it with their best character. Yeah, that’s right. Miles Morales.

WIZARD WORLD Names John Macaluso New CEO. YOU’RE NOT MY GAREB.

It was a dark day indeed last year when Gareb Shamus killed off Wizard and then not much later (especially in the galactic sense!) resigned as Chief-Something-Such and rode off into the sunset on a life-sized neon Tauntaun he himself had sold through ToyFare. Sure the dude had run Wizard into the ground and really hadn’t done anything in Gods knows how long, he was still our Dad. Now we’re going to meet the Step Dad and I say fuck him!

‘EXCITABLE LIEFELD’ Site Charts Rob Liefeld’s Use Of Exclamation Points On Twitter. Brilliant.

Ben Tripp has mastered the internet. You see Tripp has noticed something in regards to Rob Liefeld. Not only is Rob Liefeld the master of pouches, straps, enormous guns, and Zombie Christ, but Tripp noticed he’s also excitable. Like Caff-Pow levels of bananas. He’s gone on to create a website that tracks this excitement by measuring the amount of exclamation points Cable’s Daddy is using on Twitter.

‘BATMAN’ By RAFAEL GRAMPA. What More Do You Need?

There’s (Pulp)Hope for Media Theory!

In my younger and more volatile years, I tried really hard to be smart. I read intelligent stuff, used big words, and analyzed movies more than I watched them. Hey, we all make mistakes. Anyways, per the requirements of a media theory class, I once found myself reading Scott Bukatman’s Terminal Penetration. At the time, I was simply enthralled by Bukatman’s examination of the postmodern relationship between technology, consciousness, narrative, and virtual reality.

This theorist’s words spoke to me, encouraging me to scrutinize reality and the ways I experience it. However, the class ended, so I went back to drinking beers and playing MarioKart: Double Dash!! instead of worrying about the inevitable collapsing of reality as its paper-thin foundation crumbles.

Whatevs.

However, I have now learned that Paul Pope has contributed art for the 2nd edition of Scott Bukatman’s Blade Runner reader. As a diehard acolyte of the PULPHOPE, a fan of Harrison Ford’s most under-appreciated work, and a one-time student of media theory, I may just have to snag this book.

Punch it to hyperspace to see art, clips of the movie, and a video of Bukatman analyzing superheroes.
