Paul Pope’s ‘BATTLING BOY’ is scheduled for October. Wrd.
October! October. It appears that October of 2013 is going to serve as the calendar month where all of the mythical projects we have been anticipating for a long minute will finally arrive. We’re not just getting Gravity, folks. In addition, Paul Pope will be gracing us with Battling Boy. I can only imagine how giddy this makes Rendar. I’m sort of excited, too. No, really! Look at my sweatpants. They’re dancing.
Brian Wood and Olivier Coipel launching a women-only ‘X-MEN’ TITLE.
Women-only X-Men title? I suppose it would fry the synapses of fan-people if they deviated from the ever-marketable franchise moniker, even if it was to emphasize the ladies only experience. Whatever. None the less. I’m really excited for this endeavor, with two of my more favorite creators collaborating on the joint.
Court ruling finds ‘SUPERMAN’ back in Warner Bros. and DC Comics’ greasy paws.
Fuck Warner Bros! As of right now, I am publicly rescinding the pitch I sent to them. You know, the pitch about the bi-polar kid so hopped up on caffeine he literally pierces time and space with one frothy piss. Once he clambers into the other dimension, he finds a pet unicorn who he falls in love with. After a prolonged courting process, they make love. The kid dies almost immediately. I rescind all of this, because Warner Bros. will just make like a zillion bucks off it and I’ll get nothing. Nothing!
Aslan Malik brings the JUSTICE LEAGUE to American dollar bills. Holler!
I don’t know what I’m typing today. Mom and Dad didn’t lock the cage, and so now I’m running around eating Oreos cookies and dumping Mountain Dew in my ass. Wait, what am I talking about? Oh! Aslan Malik. Took American dollar bills and added some fantastic artwork to them. I don’t think it’s legal though. Won’t the Empire Gestapo whisk infidels away for defiling imperial credits? I haven’t practiced law in a while.
Brandon Graham gives STORM the quality Mohawk she deserves.
Ah, this is so delicious. Brandon Graham posted a picture he drew of Storm on his tumblr. Like all people of awesomeness, he imagines the Weather Wielder with her mohawk.
Warren Ellis on DIGITAL COMICS and the walled-in gardens.
Over at Robot 6, Chris Arrant has a pretty gnarly interview with Warren Ellis. They talk about a variety of topics, but the one that caught my attention was Ellis’ exposition on the state of digital comics. Specifically, my Master touched on the uncomfortable fact about services such as comiXology. Aside from its insipid name.
Snake Plissken x Fiona Staples = My find of the day.
This is an older jam (as noted by the date Staples herself dropped on the picture), but it is my first time coming across it. Love it.
THE GANG OMEGA’S PICKS OF 2012: Rendar Frankenstein’s Rumination Frenzy!!
It’s with a tearful eye and a hyper-extended thumbs-up that I bid farewell to 2012.
The last twelve months have been some of the finest of my entire life. And I’m not exaggerating. Unlike those saccharine slobs who always clamor about the present hour being their finest and the preceding moments nothing more than the bliss-steps to their existence plateaus, I have no illusions about the fact that I’ve chalked up some miserable years. I’ve anguished through entire calendars, burnin’ `em up with fuel of the most incendiary sort.
Self-doubt! Resentment! Apathy! Vitriol! Cynicism! Sally forth towards the mire!
But 2012 was a whole different beast. Sure, there definitely some moments when my nostrils were assailed by the wispy vapors of the aforementioned propellants. But repugnance was ultimately cast aside, overpowered by the surfeit of wonder! It’s almost as though entertainment and art and love formed a giant sword-wieldin’, monster-destroyin’ mech, and I got to pilot the son-of-a-bitch!
If only!
Anyways, it looks as though every crew member of Spaceship OL is delivering their year-end highlights, so I’m going to join the party. But since I’ve garnered a reputation as being the erratic, currently-undiagnosed-but-we’re-working-on-it, hack-writin’ resident of the crew, I’m going to switch things up a bit. Each of my highlights will be paired with an Ultra-Dimensional Portal! By clicking on any UDP, a hole will be punched in space-time, and your consciousness will be projected astrally.
Got it? Okay, here’s one last look at 2012!
Jonathan Hickman on making ‘FANTASTIC FOUR’ relevant again. Feels, man.
Johnny Hickman’s run on Fantastic Four is one of my favorite collections of consecutive creator awesomeness ever. So when I stumbled across a quote where he is explaining his aims for the title, I figured I’d save it for posterity. It perfectly captures what I love about the entire run. Oh and yeah, if you have any idea what it is from, let me know.
Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick are objectively awesomest family.
This panel from Hawkeye had me busting gut when I read it, and now that I know the secret story behind it, the magic is doubled. Nay! Fucking tripled. So good.
