#Comic Books
Oldest Superman Cover Design snags a cool $280,000+ at auction
Action Comics #15 cover design? Mad money! By God there’s gold in them there comic book boxes! Provided, you know. That you’re a ding-dong of the highest order and you’re keeping comic books from 1939 in a regular old comic box. Right?
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ poster is all, irreverent and s**t
YeahIknoweveryoneandtheirmom has already seen this poster, okay? Kiss my ass and write my lesson plans for me if you’re going to bring that critique hammer down on my squash! Still, it’s gnarly as fuck and frankly I want to wank off to it with you folks.
Hit the jump to see it (again)!
FOX has TOTALLY CAST THE ‘FANTASTIC FOUR’ REBOOT. No srsly this time.
If you’re to believe the NETTER-WEBS today, the Fantastic Four reboot is finally cast. Finally! I mean I want to believe the buzz, but haven’t we been doing this dance for so long now?
Gnarly: Becky Cloonan releasing hardcover collection of her minicomics trilogy.
Bonus! Bonus! Are you a hard-on like myself who has truly dropped the fucking ball when it comes to picking up Becky Cloonan’s minicomics? Well friends — lest us not weep too loudly for our salvation approaches. Our chance at redemption. Cloonan is collecting the three of her minicomics, Wolves (which I did buy, ha!), The Mire, and Demeter. The sons a bitches will be packaged together, and wrapped in a hardcover. Sold.
Greg Rucka returning to Marvel to pen young CYCLOPS ongoing series
What could make me give a fuck about young Cyclops? Well if you’ve looked over at this week’s BTFC, you know it sure ain’t Brian Michael Bendis. But how about Greg Rucka? Dude is crushing it with Lazarus (helped on by the talented Michael Lark), so yeah whatever he feels like doing for the Big Two I’m instantly intrigued by.
Oni Press sends WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH copies of ‘THE AUTEUR.’ So good.
Double-headed dragons of domination, right here. Oni Press has sent the Westboro Baptist Church “review” copies of their upcoming title The Auteur. The excellently depraved book (I can’t wait for the physical release March 5) is right up their alley. Or rather, Satan’s Alley where they seem to be sending us. So yeah — great move. Some easy marketing for a promising book, and hopefully inducing mass vomiting among the cultists who populate that damned estate.
Buy These Flippin’ Comics!!! (2.12.2014) – Trade Ya!
It’s Dumpuary for the movies – ya kids know what that is? Films that otherswise would not be successful get dumped into this month for release in order to ensure some sort of profit. So, though there can be diamonds found in the rough, most flicks coming out are pure gaaaarbage. And while I don’t consider this week’s comic book releases to be completely void of merit, some weeks are better than others, ya feel me? Call it a Weakday, maybe? So I’m going to do my best to plug some of the more entertaining releases, plus shine a light on some of the cooler trade paperbacks dropping this week. Hit the jump for all the patronizing pseudo-intellectualism you’ve come to expect from me, plus comics!
A full list of this weeks’s releases can be found HERE but I’m serious this week is pretty stale.
Dan Mora’s WONDER WOMAN rides a gnarly motorcycle
Fuck the Batmobile, give me Wonder Woman riding high on a chopper. That’s what they’e called, right? Choppers. All peeling out, riding or dying. Maybe lasso a motherfucker while bombing down the streets of Metropolis at one-hundred miles per hour.
Hit the jump for the awesome depiction.
Matt Fraction spits about why he left ‘IRON FIST.’ Makes sense, still bums me out.
For but a moment in time, Iron Fist was the fucking jam. Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction, and David Aja collaborated on one of my favorite runs in the last…five years? (I’ll be honest I can’t remember when this run took place — blame the caffeine and the psychoactives.) It burned oh-so-brightly, and then like that it was gone. Unlike Thor: The Mighty Avenger though (another criminally under appreciated title in my book), it wasn’t canned. The team just sort of…left. Now Matty Fraction gives some insight into the why.
GEOFF JOHNS + JOHN ROMITA JR. = next ‘SUPERMAN’ creative team
It’s been rumored! Announced! Confirmed. John Romita Jr. and Geoff Johns will be the creative team on Superman. This does absolutely nothing for me, and in fact the presence of Johns’ means I’m actively disinterested. Does this mean I’ll skip their debut issue? Of course not. Well played, DC. You clever fuckers.
