Frank Cho returnin’ to that creator-owned comic book grind
Frank Cho’s going creator-owned once more! The talented dude, whose work I struggle to appreciate amid his overwhelming cheesecake vibe, has revealed a couple of comics springing up out of his mind. The first one is World of Payne, and it’s dropping in 2015.
‘Action Comics’ #1 going for nearly $2 million halfway through auction
Well it looks like my offer of “Promising to take really good care of it” and “Several dozen empty Diet Dew cans” isn’t going to be enough to buy the copy of Action Comics #1 currently at auction. The comic, which is supposedly like the nicest, most pristine copy of it ever, is going for nearly $2 million. Halfway through the auction.
Rob Liefeld has launched a Rob Liefeld app. This is amazing.
Last week Johnny Hotsauce and myself spent a good amount of time admiring the fact that Rob Liefeld is truly radical. And almost as though The Stoked One could perceive our excitement, he has issued forth an application for our phones. An application that is centered around helping us be the best Rob Liefeld fans we can possibly be.
DC announces ‘Gotham By Midnight’ horror series. Ben Templesmith drawing. I’m there.
DC looks to be branching out into interesting Bat-Territory this year. Becky Cloonan is writing Gotham Academy. Gerry Duggan bringing Arkham Manor to life. And now there’s a horror comic coming out? I see, I see. But DC can sense my skepticism. (The world revolves around me, specifically my enormous, cellulite-riddled pale white ass.) How do you get me to give a fuck about a horror comic set in Gotham? You bring in Ben Templesmith to helm the artwork. And I say goddamn! now this is all terribly exciting to me.
Diamond: Comic sales drop, merchandise and graphic novels sales rise
Man. I watched The Image Revolution last week, and the most staggering thing about it was how many fucking issues some comic books sold. After being reminded that countless top titles sold 300,000+ issues a month, following sales figures has become really interesting.
Mark Waid’s ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ comic will be in-continuity adventures of TV cast
Maybe it’s telling, but all I can fucking think about when reading that Mark Waid will be bringing Agents of SHIELD to Marvel’s comic universe is this: “What the fuck is going to happen to Weaver and Hickman’s SHIELD?” Cause honestly? If the former is going to cause the latter’s demise — fuck that.
Marvel dropping three new ‘Star Wars’ comics starting next year
Starting next year, Marvel is bringing three Star Wars comics into existence. Gimme! Gimme. Gimme. They all sound goddamn neato, but I’m particularly sprung over the titular Star Wars comic. I mean, Jason Aaron and John Cassaday wielding the Force? Sweet baby Jesus.
Details and covers after the jump.
Comixology offering DRM-free back-ups. Of some comics.
Holy fucking shit! Would you believe that Comixology is offering the ability for their users to actually own their comics? Yup! It’s true. Can’t fucking believe it! Of course, this DRM-free Wonderland isn’t available for all comics. Not yet. Let’s not go crazy.
Lemire and Nguyen dropping sci-fi comic ‘Descender’
More glorious, delicious, gloriously delicious creator-owned news out of Image’s camp. Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen are teaming up to bring Descender into the world. The comic is centered around a Robot Boy who must thrive in a lonely universe whilst avoiding bounty hunters aiming to bring him down.
Ellis, Shalvey, Bellaire taking ‘Injection’ to Image Comics
Good god. I was pretty ass-chapped and whimpering about Ellis and Shalvey leaving Moon Knight after six-issues. (I believe Bellaire is staying on?) But holy fucking better-than-consolation prize! The entire fucking team is doing a creator-owned at Image.
