‘Us’ Trailer: Jordan Peele’s next movie is a horrifying, surreal home invasion
I ain’t ready for Jordan Peele’s follow-up to Get Out. But, I’m so fucking ready for Jordan Peele’s follow-up to Get Out.
CBR:
If uplifting holiday movies aren’t your thing, Jordan Peele has shared a creepy gift with the world this Christmas morning: the first trailer for Us, his upcoming film.
Peele’s 2017 directorial debut Get Out, which was a box office smash and won him an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, proved that the man knows how to meld the seemingly mundane with plenty of existential dread. His aim seems to be one of frightening audiences with situations that are all too possible, while touching on the important social issues of the day. From this first glimpse of Us, it appears he’s prepared to take viewers down that road once again.
The trailer opens on a normal road trip, a family of four heading to the beach on holiday. When the young son goes missing for a few brief moments, he encounters someone — or something — that changes the course of their vacation from sunny seaside destination into nightmare fuel.
Black Panther co-stars Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke (Wakandans Nakia and M’Baku, respectively) reunite as the parents of this nuclear family who are faced with a surreal home invasion, one perpetrated by people who look just like them. The trailer has an even darker tone than the early promos for Get Out, advertising itself as “a new nightmare.” From what Peele has chosen to reveal with the two and a half minute clip, the description looks accurate.
