CD Projekt Red has finally released the first gameplay demo for Cyberpunk 2077 to the public. Previously seen behind closed doors at E3 2018 and Gamescom 2018, the 48-minute video showcases how your in-game choices–from cybernetic modifications to side-quests–influence your own personal story.
In the video above, we see some of the high-level combat abilities in Cyberpunk 2077, as well as how those skills can be combined for devastating effect in boss battles. One of the cooler abilities is showcased right at the start: an ocular implant that lets you see the flight path of bullets. This allows you to ricochet shots into targets hiding behind cover. The demo followed up with another ocular implant ability that allows you to see enemies through walls. Although it’s not as flashy, it’s still a pretty nifty skill, especially when combined with a weapon using ammo that can pierce through obstacles.
After that, the demo started really leaning into the cyber themes of the game, and offered the first look at the Mantis Blades. Mantis Blades lets you extrude spider-like limbs from your character’s arms. These spikes are good for both clinging to and climbing along walls, as well as slicing through enemies in bloody executions. Double jumping, in-air dashing, and sliding are available to perform more acrobatic takedowns.
The video ends with our first look at how some boss battles work in Cyberpunk 2077. Scanning a boss prior to a fight reveals their weak points. Even then, you shouldn’t stay still and wait for the weakness to present itself. Bosses are typically much stronger than you are, so you’ll have to keep switching up your attack strategy and remain an elusive target. In order to give yourself some breathing room, the environment can be interacted with to provide makeshift cover.
Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. To see more parts of the game, you can watch all the combat from the demo or see the quiet moments of exploration that occur between the running-and-gunning.
