Ewan McGregor is good as Obi-Wan. Yes, yes, I know. However, I’m just not going to get psyched about another regurgitating of current mythos until Lucasfilm begins bringing some new ideas into the fold. That said, I’m sure I’ll mark out for this movie. I stand for nothing, it is clear.

CBR:

Disney and Lucasfilm are reportedly looking to start production on the Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff in 2019.

Despite details remaining sparse on the plot and cast, three-time Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry (Billy ElliotThe ReaderThe HoursThe Crown) is being lined up to helm the film. Ewan McGregor has already expressed a desire to return to the role but nothing has been made official.

The Omega Underground report suggests that filming may at begin at Pinewood Studios UK sometime in January 2019. It was previously reported that the movie could go under the working title of “Joshua Tree,” which may indicate a return to Tatooine. Rumors also suggested it could line up with the recent Marvel Comics stories that had Obi-Wan on the planet keeping watch over a young Luke Skywalker.

He would eventually meet and train Luke in the ways of the Jedi in order to face his father, Darth Vader. Despite dying in A New Hope, Obi-Wan still re-appeared as a Force ghost throughout the original trilogy. He was also seen recently in Star Wars Rebels rekindling an old feud on Tatooine with Darth Maul, his main adversary from The Phantom Menace.

Should all go as planned, the movie could take on the final title of Kenobi: A Star Wars Story, and follow J.J. Abrams’ 2019 Episode IX flick, making its way into cinemas in May or December 2020.
