‘Captain Marvel’ casts Jude Law as its male lead. Well, dude finally gets a comic book movie
Jude Law was sweating being in a Watchmen movie back in the day, but that didn’t happen. Zack Snyder had other designs, like shitting on the property before turning his destructive eyes towards the DCU proper. However, now Law is finally getting into the capes-and-lasers game.
CBR:
Jude Law is reportedly in talks to join Marvel’s Captain Marvel as the male lead opposite Brie Lawson.
Variety reports Law will star as Mar-Vell (Doctor Walter Lawson), who is described as “a mentor of sorts to Danvers as she tries to figure out her new powers.” Last month it was reported that Marvel Studios was looking at Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Ben Mendelsohn to play the antagonist of the film, which is expected to be — but not confirmed as — a Skrull leader.
Mar-Vell, aka the original Captain Marvel, is a member of the alien race the Kree. There were rumors that Mar-Vell would play a role in the film, with the script including the Psyche-Magnitron machine. The device, built by the Kree, has a number of uses, but perhaps its most important is the ability to bestow people with super powers. It shares a long, somewhat tangled history with Carol Danvers, and is responsible for her becoming a superhero in the first place; in the comics, the machine responded to her half-Kree DNA, tapped into a subconscious desire to become a superhero, and stole energy from Mar-Vell’s Nega Bands (special gauntlets that amplified and added to Mar-Vell’s inherent abilities) in order to transform her into a superhuman.
