Rumor: Matt Reeves already has Ben Affleck’s replacement in mind for ‘The Batman’

What, what the fuck are we doing here? Ben Affleck clearly doesn’t want to be Batman. Furthermore, Matt Reeves already got a fucking replacement in mind. Can we just call the BatFleck experiment over, already?

Following renewed uncertainty as to whether Ben Affleck will reprise his role as the Dark Knight in Matt Reeves upcoming The Batman, a new report indicates that the director may already have someone in mind to take over the role, though it doesn’t indicate exactly who.

“I’m hesitant to say anything, but I talked to somebody yesterday, and it was a Hollywood producer, who told me who Matt Reeves wants as Batman,” John Campea — who is responsible for the original rumor that Affleck wants to leave the role — said on The John Campea Show. “I’ll be honest with you. The name they [gave] me caught me a little bit by surprise. I called somebody else later in the day saying, ‘I heard this. Is there any validity to this?’ and they said, ‘Well, Matt does want him, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. I mean there’s been no movement or anything like that. It doesn’t mean anything is going to happen.’”

“And I am so tempted to say who that person is,” Campea continued, “but I got so much sh*t from people just because I told you all eight months ago that Ben Affleck was going to be departing DCEU, and I got called ‘liar’ and all this kind of stuff… so I’m very hesitant to say who it is. I’m going to think about it for another day or two if I reveal who that is, but Matt Reeves has got somebody he’s got in mind.”

As Campea’s sources and potential replacement are unnamed, this is still just a rumor, so there’s a chance that nothing may come of it. Although Affleck said in August that he would play the role as long as DC wanted, he recently revealed that he wants “to find a graceful and cool way to segue out of” the role. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that he won’t reprise the role for Reeves’ film.
