Michelle Williams has joined Tom Hardy in that ‘Venom’ movie that is still happening
Snark aside, I’m pretty excited for the Venom flick. Terms like “Cronenberg” and “Body Horror” have been bandied about, and, fuck, Tom Hardy. With Michelle Williams joining the cast, my quietly simmering excitement continues to build.
AV Club:
While Marvel and Sony work out the particulars of a Spider-Man guest appearance in any Venom films, production on the movie that will star Tom Hardy as the titular anti-villain is moving forward. In addition to rumors of newly-minted Emmy winner Riz Ahmed joining the cast, Variety reportsthat Michelle Williams has just signed on to Ruben Fleischer’s film. And Williams, who was recently nominated for an Oscar for her work in Manchester By The Sea, will reportedly play a district attorney who may even be Venom’s love interest.
Sony hasn’t officially weighed in on what role Williams will be playing, nor has it confirmed if this is the Eddie Brock version of Venom, or, since Marvel movie head honcho Kevin Feige has stressed this is very much its own franchise, if he’ll get some fancy new alter ego, like Teddy Hock. But the movie is still set to arrive October 5, 2018, with Fleischer directing from a script by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, the latter of whom had a hand in The Dark Tower adaptation, which, uh, definitely came out this year.
