‘Mother!’ Trailer: Aronofsky Returns With Some Nightmare Fuel
There isn’t enough going on in the mother! trailer to know what’s going on. However, there is enough going on to let me know the movie seems like a stripped down, tense, thrilling return to form for Aronofsky. Sign me up.
The Mary Sue:
With the number of trailers out there that pretty much give away the entire plot of the movie, it’s interesting to see how Darren Aronofksy’s mother! builds intrigue by refusing to give too much away.
The first teaser I saw in theaters this weekend had none of the scenes from the film, only the frantic and hushed voices of Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem. James Jean (who also made a beautiful poster for Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water) created gorgeous poster art that showed a calm Lawrence offering her literal heart, ripped out from her chest.
The most we knew about the film is that the synopsis states, “A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence” and the cast also includes Domhnall Gleeson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Harris, Kristen Wiig, and Brian Gleeson. The new teaser shows Lawrence in the white dress from the poster walking through an empty house, more hushed voice, and a series of images that include bugs (gross), fire, sex, and a lot of screaming bloody murder. This teaser’s definitely got us curious about what the Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan director has in store for us next.
The film premieres next month at the Venice Film Festival and comes to the U.S. September 15th. Are you looking forward to it?
