Karl Urban? Returning for the Judge Dredd television series? Maybe? Now, now I give a shit about this little development.

CBR:

He was the law, and he could be again.

Karl Urban, who starred in 2012’s Dredd as the grimmest Judge in Mega-City One, has long expressed interest in returning to the role, whether in a movie sequel or a potential television spinoff. Now that development has begun on the Judge Dredd: Mega City One TV drama, will the actor get his wish?

While speaking with The 2000AD Thrill-Cast, Mega City One producer Brian Jenkins addressed that possibility, saying, “We have had many conversations prior to this, about all sorts of things. He’s also very busy, a full-time professional actor. So we’re going to have some long and complicated conversations, I would imagine, and we’ll see where we go. It’s too early to tell yet, but if we can use him and he’s available to us, then I think that would be absolutely brilliant. There’s always a possibility he will be busy, or that his schedule for other movies won’t allow. Basically, we don’t know at this stage.”

That comment might seem merely nice, but non-committal, if it weren’t or Urban’s well-known affection for the role. Barely a year ago the actor teased that “conversations are happening” about a Dredd TV series.

Although Dredd opened in 2012 to mostly positive reviews, director Pete Travis’ film grossed just $41.5 million worldwide. Fans threw their support behind campaigns for a sequel, going so far as to organize a “Day of Dredd” to boost Blu-ray and DVD sales.

As Jenkins said, Urban is a busy film actor, with roles in Star Trek, Pete’s Dragon and the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok. However, he’s no stranger to television, having starred on Fox’s Almost Human.
