‘Game of Thrones’ spin-offs in development at HBO, obviously

Go figure: HBO is exploring potential spin-offs for everyone’s favorite mediocre display of dragons, tits, and violence. Yup. That’s right. Fuck Winter. Game of Thrones spin-offs are coming.

Polygon:

HBO is currently working with four different writers for potential spinoffs for its biggest series on the air right now, Game of Thrones.

“We’ve closed deals for four very talented writers to each explore different time periods of George R.R. Martin’s vast and rich universe,” an HBO representative told Polygon.

The network confirmed today that author George R.R. Martin would be involved with the series. If greenlit, it would mark the first spinoff that HBO has ever ordered based on one of its original series. The network is currently looking at Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class), Brian Helgeland (A Knight’s Tale) and Carly Wray (Mad Men).

“There is no set timetable for these projects,” the rep said. “We’ll take as much or as little time as the writers need and, as with all our development, we will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in.”

Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Wiess and David Benioff are currently working on finishing up the seventh season and preparing for the eighth and final season of the series.

“We have kept them up to date on our plans and they will be attached, along with George R.R. Martin, as executive producers on all projects,” the rep said.

Game of Thrones will return for its seventh season on July 16.
