First Official Look: Meet Marvel’s ‘Inhumans’, a royal squad of immense dorks
Man, look at these fucking herbs.
Now filming in Honolulu, Hawaii, the eight-episode ABC drama centers on the Royal Family of the Inhumans, a race of genetically advanced humans with extraordinary powers introduced in 1965 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in Marvel’s “Fantastic Four.” The first two episodes, filmed entirely with IMAX cameras, will premiere Sept. 1 in IMAX theaters, two weeks before the show’s broadcast debut Sept. 26 on ABC.
EW confirms “Inhumans” will be set in the technologically advanced city Attilan and on Earth, where the Royal Family flee after being splintered by a military coup.
“Basically we’re telling a story about a family at a very critical juncture in their lives,” executive producer Scott Buck tells the website. “When we meet up with them, we’re going to find that pretty much everything they’ve ever known is at risk. He added, “We approach these all as real people who just happen to have these abilities, so they’re all very grounded people. We try to write them as real as possible, and then have fun with the powers when we can. We want their powers to seem like a very natural part of their personality.”
Buck also addressed the CG elements of the series, noting the difficulty in bringing Medusa’s hair to life onscreen, and predicting, “Lockjaw is probably going to end up being the audience’s favorite character.”
Co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios, “Marvel’s Inhumans” is executive produced by Scott Buck (“Dexter,” “Marvel’s Iron Fist”) with Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” “Marvel’s Luke Cage”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” “Marvel’s Luke Cage”). Buck also serves as showrunner. The first two episodes will be directed by Roel Reine (“The Delivery,” “Black Sails”).
“Inhumans” stars Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Iwan Rheon as Maximus the Mad, Serinda Swan as Queen Medusa, Ken Leung as Karnak, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Mike Moh as Triton and Sonya Balmores as Auran.
