Rumor: Josh Gad playing The Penguin in ‘The Batman’ movie
Josh Gad is a fucking choad. That is written, that is known. So, yeah, fuck him playing the Penguin in The Batman.
The Dark Knight may be facing a familiar foe in the DCEU, if the latest tweet from Josh Gad is to be believed. Ever since Ben Affleck was announced as the new Batman for DC’s shared universe, talk has turned to the possibility of a solo film featured the more grizzled version of Gotham’s protector. Following the success of Batman v Superman, the stars began to align as word of The Batman broke, with a script by Affleck and DC head Geoff Johns, with the star also directing. For awhile, it even looked as if the film would land next year, before the production hit a number of snags.
As it stands, things seem to be holding steady with Affleck being replaced behind the camera by War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves. The release date is still up in the air, however, and even the previous confirmation of Joe Manganiello playing Deathstroke has since been brought into question. Of couse, the Dark Knight has no shortage of rogues in the comics, and it looks as if a familiar one could be in the works.
Josh Gad took to his Twitter to post a photo of the Penguin without any caption or context. While he could simply be trolling fans, there’s a good chance he’s either campaigning for the role or teasing that he’s already been cast.
Now that’s clearly not hard evidence (noticed by Uproxx), but there has been other activity on Twitter that supports this theory. Josh Gad was recently followed by DC Films executives Jon Berg and Geoff Johns on the social media service, which is exactly what happened before Joe Manganiello and ex-The Flash director Rick Famuyiwa became involved in projects within the DC Extended Universe. That’s a fairly good indication that something could be in the works.
