Nintendo dropping SNES Classic Edition. I can’t wait to not find it!
Hey! Nintendo is dropping an SNES Classic Edition this year! Fucking neat! I can’t wait for their bullshit artificial scarcity to result in me not being able to find one! #FUCKNINTENDOLOL.
Nintendo discontinued the NES Classic Edition because it will release the much-requested SNES Classic Edition this year, according to a new report.
Eurogamer – whose sources correctly leaked information about Nintendo’s Switch console prior to its reveal – claims that the SNES Classic Edition (or SNES Mini in Europe) will be released in time for Christmas, and that development is underway.
There’s no information on what games the microconsole could include, nor whether it aims to correct some of the problems with NES Classic Edition, such as its unit shortages, and its absurdly short controller cable.
Nintendo controversially discontinued production of the NES Classic Editionlast week, despite its sell-out popularity and a clamour for new units to be produced. Nintendo explained that “NES Classic Edition wasn’t intended to be an ongoing, long-term product.”
In our review of the NES Classic, we said, “Nintendo’s tiny console is wonderfully made, but its painfully short controller limits how you enjoy these games.”
IGN has contacted Nintendo for comment.
