Rumor: Simon Kinberg Directing Next ‘X-Men’ Movie
Simon Kinberg is probably directing the next X-Flick, X-Men: Supernova. Should this excite you, should you be excited that Bryan Singer isn’t directing it, remember. Kinberg fucking *wrote* X-Men: Apocalypse.
Talk of a sequel to X-Men: Apocalypse has been rampant as of late. There have been rumors of titles, shooting dates, actors returning, and more. But one thing there hasn’t been is an answer to the question of who might write and direct the expected X-sequel. Now that name may finally be revealed.
That name is Simon Kinberg, who has co-written and produced the last three X-Men films, as well as produced Fantastic Four, Deadpool, Logan, basically everything in the franchise since X-Men: First Class. Collider reports that Kinberg, who has never directed a feature film, is in talks to direct the next X-sequel from a script he’s already written. And yes, that script would be the telling of the Dark Phoenix saga, which has been teased numerous times in the franchise.
We’ve reached out to Kinberg’s representatives and Fox for comment, but have yet to hear back as of publication.
What we do know is that Sophie Turner, who played Jean Grey in Apocalypse, has said she expects to be filming a new X-Men film this year. James McAvoy, who plays the young Charles Xavier, also posted the following on his Instagram in the last day, with the quote “I can’t wait for the summer.”
