‘Deadpool’ 2 Seeming Likely To Cast Pierce Brosnan As Cable
The meta, post-modern tea leaves seem to signal one thing: Pierce Brosnan is going to be Cable in Deadpool 2.
Deadpool may have defied the general comic book movie tropes in many ways, but when it came to the credits, it followed suit with the countless films that have come before. Marvel Studios brought back the post-credit scenes in the MCU, and even though Deadpool had one as a joke, it also teased what – or more importantly who – will be introduced in Deadpool 2. Cable was name dropped to make his big screen debut in the sequel, and ever since people have been wondering who would get the coveted role.
Everyone from Stephen Lang and Kyle Chandler to Ron Perlman and more have been linked to the role by speculation, actual reporting, and any other avenue. The most recent name thrown into contention was former 007 Pierce Brosnan when he, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman shared a suspicious photo. While initially thought to be a case of fans reading too much into a particular photo, new evidence suggests that the stars are aligning for him to land the role.
On the newest episode of Meet the Movie Press, Simon Thompson – a reporter for a variety of outlets – spoke briefly about his recent chat with Deadpool 2 director David Leitch. At the John Wick: Chapter 2 premiere, Thompson jokingly congratulated Leitch on bringing Brosnan aboard as Cable because of the photo, but Leitch’s response, “We have not, yet,” led Thompson to pose the question to Tracking Board’s Jeff Sneider and Variety’s Justin Kroll if there was something there. This brought Sneider to comment back saying, “Justin can’t say anything, but, yeah, I’ve heard it’s going to him.”
