‘New Mutants’ Movie Will Feature James McAvoy As Professor X
Looks like we’re not done with James McAvoy as Professor X. Not just yet! The actor is going to be appearing in Fox’s New Mutants movie. Will the movie be any good? Who knows! But. And, and dear god I hope I don’t regret saying this, it can’t be any worse than X-Men: Apocalypse.
In a new interview with ComingSoon.net, rumored “New Mutants” star Anya Taylor-Joy let slip that James McAvoy’s (“X-Men: Days of Future Past”) Professor X will indeed appear in the film, as indicated in previous reports.
“I have [seen the Demon Bear animatic], it’s pretty cool,” Taylor-Joy said in the interview, referencing a leaked storyboard animatic that confirmed the film would adapt the seminal “Demon Bear Saga.” “I’m a big fan so I’d love to be a part of it. I can’t say very much, but I would love to be a part of it. I think this year’s gonna be very exciting.”
When pressed if McAvoy would appear in the film, Taylor-Joy said, “I mean, I think James is already a part of it, isn’t he?”
Fox’s “New Mutants” film is expected to feature a classic team lineup that includes Mirage, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Cannonball, Magik and Warlock, who play central roles in the three-issue “Demon Bear” arc and its immediate aftermath.
“After I made ‘The Fault in Our Stars,’ we made Fox a comic book,” writer-director Josh Boone recently said on the development of the film. “It walked them through a trilogy of ‘New Mutant’ films that would build on each other. We used this program called Comic Life, and took all the images we had loved from the series and strung them together to show them the movie we wanted to do. We brought it to Simon [Kinberg, X-Men franchise producer] and he really liked it. We’ve been going for the past year and a half to get it ready, and I’m about to go location scout and we have a release date now.”
