‘Tomb Raider’ Movie Reboot Casts Walton Goggins As Its Villain
Walton Goggins is the villain in the Tomb Raider movie! Nice. Nice goddamn choice. I have to say, this news sneakily snuck under the radar maybe a week ago. But! It’s important to note, this week, as the AssCreed movie stands poised to once again reaffirm the notion that video game movies are raw ass. So, no pressure Goggins, but I’m using you to naively cling to hope.
With every bit of news released about the Tomb Raider reboot, our interest perks up a bit. First it was the casting of Oscar winner Alicia Vikander as the iconic Lara Croft. Now there’s the casting of the bad guy, who’ll be played by Walton Goggins.
Goggins is one of those “I recognize that guy” actors who is on the cusp of being a household name. This year, you may have seen him in HBO’s Vice Principals or as the evil sheriff in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. Before that, he was a real son-of-a-bitch in Django Unchained and had huge roles on The Shield, Sons of Anarchy, Justified, and Deadwood. He’s one of those super unique actors with a distinct look and energy that makes him incredibly versatile, but a really really good bad guy.
There’s no word on specifically who Goggins will be playing in Tomb Raider, though it could be a number of characters from different iterations of the story. No matter who it is, though, he’s going to make very things difficult for Lara.
The film, which will be out March 16, 2018, is being directed by Roar Uthaug.
