FX’s Legion confirms connection to Professor X

At NYCC, the minds behind FX’s Legion confirmed an integral connection to the X-Men Universe. Specifically? That Legion is Professor X’s son.

CBR:

X-Men fans needn’t worry that FX’s “Legion” will ignore its Marvel Comics roots — it turns out the connections are there from the very beginning.

Developed by Noah Hawley (“Fargo”), the upcoming drama centers on David Haller — in X-Men lore, the son of Charles Xavier — a man with dissociative identity disorder who discovers he may be one of the most powerful mutants on the planet. Sure, the “m-word” is there, but so are other ties to Marvel mythology, including his David’s parentage.

“I don’t think you can tell that story without that element to it, so I will say you probably will,” Hawley said this afternoon during the “Legion” panel at New York Comic Con.
“There’s a wheelchair in the first scene,” added Dan Stevens (“Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb”), who stars as David.

However, how “Legion” may link to Marvel’s “X-Men” movie franchise remains up in the air, and possibly open to interpretation.

“I think there’s a certain degree to where that’s to be determined,” Hawley said. “We’re in the subjective reality of David. We also begin to realize, we’re seeing this world through multiple layers of the confusion and signals that Dan’s character is getting. I think it would be a spoiler in a true sense to say. I really like the idea of making things that are unexpected and yet feel inevitable. I will say we are true to the origins of this character, and leave it at that.”
