Three Actresses vying for Han Solo Movie’s female lead role
Three (more?) actresses are vying for the female lead in the Han Solo flick. Not only that, but it’s being suggested that the role be that of Han Solo’s wife, first introduced recently in the Star Wars comic.
I’m down for it!
Variety reports Creed’s Tessa Thompson, X-Men First Class’ Zoe Kravitz, and Power Rangers’ Naomi Scott are currently testing for the female lead in the 2018 Han Solo Star Wars movie.
According to the report, this is the second round of tests for the mystery role, so there’s no guarantee any of these women will end up in the film. They’re currently in the running, though.
No one knows who, exactly, the character is—but a good bet would be Sana Starros, a character introduced in the Star Wars Marvel comics who was “married” to Han Solo in the past in order to help him with a scam. She chases the smuggler in the time between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. There’s no guarantee she’s in the movie, but this seedy past and timeline definitely line up.
The rumor also persists that Lando Calrissian will be in the film, and casting for that role is also still ongoing. Shooting doesn’t begin until early 2017, so directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have more time to make a decision before things get rolling.
Thompson already has her foot in the door at Disney, as she’ll next appear in Thor: Ragnarok as Valkyrie. Kravitz is no stranger to genre films, not just appearing in X-Men First Class, but the Divergent films and Mad Max: Fury Road. As for Harris, she’s the Pink Ranger in next year’s Power Rangers film and also recently appeared in The Martian. However, she’s no stranger to Disney either. She’s was the second choice for the lead in Tomorrowland and appeared years ago in an underrated Disney film called Lemonade Mouth.
Alden Ehrenreich will play Solo in the film, which is currently slated for release May 25, 2018.
