Bill Nye is getting a talk show on Netflix titled ‘Bill Nye Saves the World’

Bill Nye

Well, why not? Netflix is vacuuming up all of my childhood and late adolescent artifacts and regurgitating them into the streaming-pipes. So, again. Why not Bill Nye, who has seemingly enjoyed a wonderful resurgence over the past couple of years.

Netflix has announced that it will launch a new talk show, Bill Nye Saves the World, starring the famed scientist, engineer, comedian, author, and inventor Bill Nye. The show plans to explore science and its impact on politics, society and pop culture. Each episode of the series, which will launch in spring 2017, will tackle a topic from a scientific point of view, “dispelling myths and refuting anti-scientific claims that may be espoused by politicians, religious leaders or titans of industry.” More details on this new series after the jump.

Like many of you, I was a fan of the Bill Nye the Science Guy television series growing up and have become an even bigger fan of his appearances in the media lately promoting science and skepticism in the face of political and religious agendas.Bill Nye Saves the World will bring in special guests, conduct experiments and demonstrations, and “ultimately let the facts lead the argument.” Topics for the first season include vaccinations, genetically modified foods, and climate change.

No word on if this will see a weekly release like a traditional talk show or if we’ll get the Netflix dump-the-whole-season model. I’m guessing the latter as the talk show won’t be as topical to current events as a standard talk show. My only concern with this new show is it might all be too one note. One of the things I love about a show like Penn & Teller’s Bullshit is that they give time to the crackpots before debunking and presenting the scientific facts. Even though my

My only concern with this new show is it might all be too one note. One of the things I love about a show like Penn & Teller’s Bullshit is that they give time to the crackpots before debunking and presenting the scientific facts. Even though my beliefs are firmly in Nye’s camp, I think we need to see both sides — the crazier the better. I’ve also enjoyed Nye debating with these types in the past and Im hope that some of the special guests allow for this kind of interaction.
