Domino’s in New Zealand is ready for Drone Deliveries; the future is here

Anyone who says that America is unquestioningly the greatest country in the world has to at least pause, at least fucking *pause* when they make that statement, given this new development. Fucking Hobbits are going to be loading up DroneMonsters that shall fly through the sky, flinging goddamn pizzas into everyone’s gullets from on-high. I’m ashamed, ashamed we are not doing that yet here.

UPROXX:

We are well aware of Domino’s plan for automated pizza delivery, putting millions of young pizza drivers at risk. We touted Domino’s pizza robot as the most important invention of our time, but we didn’t know that the company was ready to up their game with a flying option. The pizza company is now looking to test out drone deliveries in New Zealand — where the pizza is a little odd in my opinion — sending it out into the sky and to your doorstep in 30 minutes or less.

Domino’s is teaming up with Flirtey to create the drones, but there’s a big catch according to Mashable:

“We are planning a phased trial approach which is based on the CAA granting approval, as both Domino’s and Flirtey are learning what is possible with the drone delivery for our products but this isn’t a ‘pie in the sky’ idea. It’s about working with the regulators and Flirtey to make this a reality for our customers,”

That’s right, the company has no approval to take to the skies with pizzas — some likely called meat lovers and featuring bbq sauce, like some freak food. But as Mashable notes, Flirtey has successfully launched some drone deliveries in the past for medication. But those were trials and the idea of having a load of drones flying over your neighborhood with pizzas is a nightmare.

As it stands, the difficulty lies with the rules behind drone operation. Sending out an unmanned drone, out of sight, with a pizza, might be out of the realm of possibility. None of this matters, obviously. Domino’s will introduce portal deliveries by next year, putting robots and pizza drivers out of business.
