Quake Champions publisher Bethesda Softworks brought the shooter’s first gameplay footage to QuakeCon 2016, and the trailer looks like the fast-paced Quake action you might remember from the ’90s.
Developed by id Software, Quake Champions is an arena-based multiplayer first-person shooter with a variety of character types and abilities. Bethesda unveiled the game with a cinematic trailer at its E3 2016 press briefing.
In a nod to the old-school Quake games, id Software is keeping loadouts out of Quake Champions, studio director Tim Willits said during his QuakeCon presentation.
“No loadouts, no limit to the amount of guns you can carry,” said Willits. “Time the weapon pickups, or kill your opponents. That’s how you get weapons in a Quake game.”
Quake Champions is in development for Windows PC. A closed beta will be available sometime in 2017.
