‘Sonic Mania’ and ‘Project Sonic 2017’ Trailers: Sega’s Two Latest Attempts at Hedgehog Resurrection
Sega has announced two new Sonic games in celebration of the Hedgehog’s 25th anniversary. To say I am skeptical at best is an understatement. To say I have perhaps unfairly written off these two projects already is more accurate.
In celebration of Sonic the Hedgehog’s 25th anniversary, SEGA has announced two new Sonic games at the San Diego Comic-Con.
ADVERTISEMENTBoth games are expected to release next year. The first game is called Sonic Mania, a 2D platformer which features revamped zone and acts from the classic games Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic CD and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckle.
Sonic Mania features nice and simple characters like Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles rather than playing with annoying talking animals. Players who joined the Sonic party had the chance to try the features of the new game. Sonic Mania will be out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2017.
“Sonic Mania has been a passion project for the entire team and we look forward to sharing more details about it later this year,” said Takashi Iizuka, head of the Sonic Team.
As published in The Escapist, the second Sonic game is called Project Sonic 2017. It is being developed under the team who handled Sonic Colors and Sonic Generation. It features both classic and modern versions of Sonic and will be available in retail and digital.
In addition to the announcement of the two new Sonic games coming in 2017, Sega will get a distinctive in-game event for the success of mobile game Sonic Dash in surpassing 200 million downloads. Green Hill Zone and Classic Sonic will also be available as a new playable character.
According to GameSpot, the special event will last for just a week. After the event, players can still unlock the classic level and a definite character to use. The game is offered on iOS, Android, Amazon and Windows Phone devices.
The second season of Sonic Boom series has been announced as well. Players who attended the party had the opportunity to watch a video clip on what season 2 has to offer.
The two new Sonic games are scheduled for a holiday 2017 release.
