Yelp now letting you sort restaurants by nearby Pokéstops
Yelp senses a fucking phenomenon. Yelp has seized this fucking phenomenon, adding an ability to sort restaurants by Pokéstops.
Pokémon Go fever is a global pandemic at this point, and for numerous restaurants, it’s a welcome infestation: Many have reported sudden spikes in business as players wander in searching for Pidgeys and Bulbasaurs and stick around for a bite to eat.
Yelp has responded accordingly, launching a new feature to help users catch ‘em all: a search filter that shows which restaurants — and other businesses — are located near a Pokéstop. (For all you Pokémon Go noobs out there, that’s a location where players can snag essential items such as Pokéballs and health-restoring potions for free.)
Using it is simple: Use the Yelp app or website to search for whatever you want (say, “tacos” or “cocktails” or the more broad “restaurants”), then swipe through the filter options at the top and select “Pokéstop Nearby.” The resulting businesses will all be located in the immediate vicinity of a Pokéstop.
In order to identify these locations, Yelp is relying on user-submitted data. As the company explains via its official blog, “To identify a business that’s in the vicinity of a PokéStop, check-in to that location on Yelp and answer a quick question to let fellow Yelpers and trainers know that this is the place they want to be.”Since this feature was launched approximately 24 hours ago, Yelp says users have already identified thousands of Pokéstops. After all, why settle for regular old Tex-Mex for dinner when you could have enchiladas topped with a CP 243 Tauros? (If you don’t know what that means, ask your 12-year-old cousin.)
