‘Pacific Rim 2’ has a release date! Dropping Feb. 23, 2018

Pacific Rim 2.

Pacific Rim 2 is really coming, folks. It’s really coming! And it’s got itself a date, to boot.

Polygon:

Legendary and Universal Pictures have set Pacific Rim 2, the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 monster versus mech fighters film, for Feb. 23, 2018.

The film, which will star Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ John Boyega as the son of Idris Elba’s character from the first film, will be released in the same month as Predator and Marvel’s Black Panther. Pacific Rim 2 won’t be directed by del Toro this time, however, and will instead be helmed by Spartacus’ Steven S. DeKnight. The film marks DeKnight’s first feature film, but the writer and producer has enjoyed a long career on other television projects, like Netflix’s Daredevil.

The sequel has had a bit of turbulence with Legendary and Universal taking the project over from Warner Bros. after the studio dropped it from its release schedule. When Pacific Rim was released it grossed $101.8 million domestically, and an additional $309.2 million internationally.
