Confirmed: James Earl Jones voicing Darth Vader in ‘Rogue One’
James Earl Jones is voicing Darth Vader, as he should be, in Rogue One. But like, who is playing him?
Following confirmation that Darth Vader will indeed play a role in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” comes news that James Earl Jones will once again give voice to the Dark Lord of the Sith.
Because of course he will. It’s difficult to imagine anyone else doing it.
The 85-year-old actor already returned to the iconic role for Disney XD’s “Star Wars Rebels,” which is set shortly before the events of the original “Star Wars” film.
Don’t expect Vader to dominate “Rogue One,” however. “He will be in the movie sparingly,” Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy tells Entertainment Weekly. “But at a key, strategic moment, he’s going to loom large.”
The primary antagonist of the film is instead Director Orson Krennic (played by Ben Mendelsohn), an ambitious Imperial officer who will do whatever it takes to secure a place at the Emperor’s side. That, naturally, makes him a rival to Vader.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Jonathan Aris. The film opens Dec. 16.
