Maybe: Bendis and Maleev’s comic ‘Scarlet’ heading to HBO
I really enjoyed Scarlet. Then it sort of went away for a long time, and either it never came back, or I just didn’t notice. It would make a dope HBO series though, that’s for sure. So make it so!
Prolific Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis co-created both Jessica Jones and Powers, and now he’s got a third book potentially making the leap to the small screen: Scarlet, which he says is in development at HBO. The network has yet to confirm the news.
Bendis shared the news at Austin’s ATX Television Festival, Deadline reports:
“I do a book called Scarlet which is soon to be announced also in our universe of television. Not announced yet, but HBO.” Bendis was careful to add that the project is “at the earliest stage”, but that “the team around it… will be announce as soon as all are on the same page.” For its part, an HBO rep said the network is not familiar with the project.
First published in 2010, the series follows a rebellious young Portland, Oregon woman named Scarlet Rue who ends up sparking a second American revolution. Drawing comparisons to The Punisher in tone, among other titles, the series has so far had 10 issues.
Jessica Jones is currently among Netflix’s Marvel offerings, while Powers is streamed via The PlayStation Network.
