Leaked: Next ‘Destiny’ expansion is ‘Rise of Iron’, ‘Destiny 2’ recently rebooted

Rise of Iron

Here’s a melange of Destiny news, for you folks that are interested. First up: this year’s major expansion has leaked. Cool. Okay. Second up: Destiny 2 was recently rebooted in its development, with Taken King director Luke Smith leading the project.

Polygon:

The fourth major expansion for Destiny, which is due sometime later this year, is calledRise of Iron, according to marketing materials posted to Reddit today. A modified version of that image can be seen above.

While the name and visuals don’t tell us much about the add-on, the poster features Iron Banner Crucible master Lord Saladin — or someone who looks just like him — wielding a flaming hammer or axe, surrounded by a trio of furry friends. According to a report from Kotaku, the Rise of Iron marketing materials are authentic, and the expansion will include a new raid.

We expect to hear more about Destiny‘s 2016 expansion at E3 next month.

Activision and Bungie announced earlier this year that a “large new expansion” forDestiny will be released in 2016. A proper sequel to the Destiny is expected sometime in 2017. Destiny‘s most recent expansion, The Taken King, was released September 2015.

Kotaku:

As we reported earlier this year, Bungie moved its internal target forDestiny 2 from 2016 to 2017. Replacing D2 in this fall’s slot will be Rise of Iron, although it’s not clear what else Bungie will release between then and fall of next year. From what we hear, Destiny 2 was recently rebooted, with Taken Kingdirector Luke Smith taking the reins of that project in the wake of a Bungie staff reorganization.
