‘World of Warcraft’ Expansion, ‘Legion’ arrives August 30

Polygon:

The sixth World of Warcraft expansion, Legion, will launch Aug. 30, Blizzard Entertainment announced today. Various editions of the pack are currently available to pre-order, offering several bonuses for longtime World of Warcraft players.

These include early access to the Demon Hunter class that makes its debut in Legion. An early access period will allow buyers to take the Demon Hunters for a spin, leveling a character up to 100 prior to the expansion’s launch. Blizzard will give more details as to when and for how long the early access campaign will run at a later date.

A summer release date was revealed at BlizzCon 2015, as were details about what to expect in the content update. New additions to the online multiplayer game include the Broken Isles, a previously unexplored continent; an increased level cap, from 100 to 110; and, as we detailed earlier this month, a plot twist that sees previous expansion Burning Crusade‘s antagonist returning — as one of the good guys.

Here’s Blizzard’s synopsis of what to expect from Legion on a story level:

In this expansion chronicling the events following Warlords of Draenor, all hellfire breaks loose when the warlock Gul’dan, betrayer of the orcs and twisted servant of the Burning Legion, unleashes a demonic invasion force upon Azeroth unlike any the Horde and the Alliance have ever faced. To save their world from annihilation, heroes must unlock the mysteries of the mythic Broken Isles, master powerful Artifact weapons, and strike a forbidden pact with the Demon Hunters of the Illidari — vengeful disciples of the dreaded Illidan Stormrage.
