HBO confirms a ‘Deadwood’ movie is on the way
Deadwood movie is on the way! Which is a great opportunity for Eddie and Johnny to pile on, and remind me what a fuck-up I am for having not watched the series yet. FUCK.
TVLine is reporting that HBO’s critically beloved Western swear reservoir, Deadwood, is being resurrected as a movie. The news—which comes after a couple of months of hints and innuendo from the network, plus hopeful wishingfrom series co-star Garret Dillahunt—has been confirmed by HBO’s president of programming, Michael Lombardo.
“David has our commitment that we are going to do it,” Lombardo said, referring to the show’s creator, David Milch, the man who helped put “hooplehead” on the map of well-trod American expletives. “He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be—and knowing David, that could change. But it’s going to happen,” Lombardo promised, adding that Milch feels he has “something left unsaid” in the violent South Dakota town. (“Cocksucker,” “fuck,” and “John From Cincinnati wasn’t all that bad” all spring to mind as potential unspoken phrases.)
But not quite yet; the writer and producer is apparently working on another project at the moment, but Lombardo assured reporters that Milch would soon turn his attention to writing the new film—and the reassembly of Deadwood’s far-flung cast, which included Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, and Brad Dourif, among several other thespians well-inclined to a bit of Shakespeare-tinged violence and obscenity.
