Official: Christopher McQuarrie writing and directing ‘Mission: Impossible 6’
It was rumored, and now it is true. McQuarrie is returning to do all the heavy lifting for M:I6.
Across five “Mission: Impossible” movies, Tom Cruise has opted to work with a new director for each outing —each helmer has brought a slightly different flavor for Ethan Hunt’s continuing adventures. But for the followup to this summer’s hit “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation,” Cruise has decided to forgo tradition and employ the director of that film, a longtime pal.
Christopher McQuarrie will be back to write, direct, and produce “Mission: Impossible 6.” Lending his writing skills to blockbusters “Valkyrie,” “Jack Reacher,” and “Edge Of Tomorrow,” McQuarrie knows how shape material to Cruise’s specifications, and their work together has been fruitful and clearly satisfying for both of them. However, for those eager to see what another director might do with the series, this news is probably a bit less exciting.
Production is slated to begin next August, and Rebecca Ferguson will possibly return as well. No release date for the movie yet, but you can probably make a good bet that the next “Mission: Impossible” will launch in 2017. [THR]
