Rumor: Star-Lord’s father from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ revealed [Updated]
[Update: James Gunn says nah.]
Star-Lord’s father is going to be featured in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and the identity of this paternal figure has been up for date. A new rumor purports to have cracked this case for us, friends. And for what its worth, the identity named, and its logical placement in the grander MCU makes sense to me. How about you? Do you buy it? Do you like it?
According to HeroicHollywood, four independent sources have confirmed that Peter Quill’s father will be revealed as the Kree warrior in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” The report also claims this may be the part Matthew McConaugheypassed on earlier this year.
In the comics, Mar-Vell is a Kree super solider sent to spy on earth to evaluate whether or not humans pose a threat to his empire. Through a series of incidents, he met Carol Danvers — who would later become Captain Marvel — and some of his Kree abilities were transferred to her, which enabled her to become a longstanding Avenger.
If this pans out, this would link Quill to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, as this would tie him to Captain Marvel, who will be headlining her own film in 2019. What’s more, Mar-Vell has a long history in cosmic Marvel, which opens up more doors for the films to explore.
However, it’s unclear if Mar-Vell would have his Kree roots in the film; in the first “Guardians” film, Nova Prime told Quill his genetics come from an ancient, long lost race, and it’s clear from the film that the Nova Corps are very familiar with the Kree. As such, the MCU version of Mar-Vell may be given a new backstory. This report speculates Mar-Vell may be Inhuman.
