‘Deadwood’ movie may finally be happening
This is for you, Johnny Hotsauce. Know that I meant to post about it earlier, and somehow I forgot to save it in my Feedly articles. But yes. Rejoice, rejoice in the fact that Deadwood may suffer a glorious rebirth upon the silver screen. (And a movie coming may very well be the push I need to indulge this work of art.)
Of course, talk of a television movie dates back nearly a decade, to June 2006, mere weeks after HBO canceled David Milch’s acclaimed Western after three seasons. Now, however, the cable channel has acknowledged “very preliminary discussions” have been made about finally giving the drama a proper sendoff.
Rumblings surfaced Wednesday when actor Garrett Dillahunt, who played both Wild Bill Hickok’s murderer Jack McCall and sadistic geologist Francis Wolcott, tweeted that he was “hearing credible rumors” about a “Deadwood” movie
In a statement release to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO said, “In reference to Garret Dillahunt’s tweet regarding the rumored ‘Deadwood’ movie, there have only been very preliminary conversations.”
The use of “only” doesn’t exactly sound promising, but the mere possibility of a “Deadwood” movie may be enough for some people.
Airing from 2004 to 2006, the drama starred Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane, Molly Parker, John Hawkes and Kim Dickens, and chronicled the rise of Deadwood, South Dakota, from a mining camp to town.
