Not True: Han Solo shoots first in ‘Star Wars’ digital editions
[Update: This has already been debunked. Because life is pain.] This week it was announced that Disney and the Monolith were releasing Star Wars in all sorts of glorious digital editions. I didn’t give one singular crap because it was understood that they were still Georgey’s Bunk Butchered Editions. But if rumors hold, at least one of his more egregious hack jobs is getting reversed.
The news of the first six Star Wars films coming to digital formats this week was met with minimal excitement. Yes, it’s great that now fans can watch their favorite films on their computers, iPad, iPhones and more, but there was no news of any significant changes. There were some cool special features, but as far as anyone knew, the movies themselves were unchanged from the Blu-ray editions released in 2011.
That may not be the case.
It’s still unconfirmed, but a rumor has surfaced that at least one change has been made to one of the movies. Apparently, Han will once again shoot Greedo first in the Mos Eisley Cantina, correcting the most controversial change George Lucas made in the 1997 Special Editions.
Badass Digest first reported the rumor. They have multiple sources who’ve told them this is true but Lucasfilm has yet to comment. Word is Fox and Lucasfilm wanted the change to be a surprise for fans as opposed to some grand reveal.
“Star Wars” fans are ever hopeful of two things that will probably never even happen: George Lucas will restore the theatrical cuts of the original trilogy without the extra VFX sauce on them, and that Han Solo will shoot first again. And so, perhaps it’s not surprising that with the digital release of the six films to date coming tomorrow, diehards crossed their fingers and wished again.
Badass Digest put forth the chatter that Han will shoot first in “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope,” but it was just as quickly been debunked. The folks at Australia’s Dark Horizons — where it is already tomorrow — have downloaded the film, and Greedo still shoots first, this time in HD glory.
