Yes! – Burnham and Villalobos revisiting ‘E Is For Extinction’ X-Men run for ‘Secret Wars’
Collect all the Glory. Stuff it into something approximating my butt tunnel’s inner contours. And then work my fanboy g-spot with it. Chris Burnham and Ramon Villalobos are taking us back to the glory days of Grant Morrison’s X-Men run. Burnham is dope as fuck! But it’s Villalobos that I’m stoked about. I’ve been sweating the mighty man on Tumblr for a minute, and spend most of my Monday nights retweeting his Monday Night Raw commentary. Secret Wars continues to bring absurd, awesome, off-beat comics to the Marvel Universe.
Marvel has another new series set to launch during“Secret Wars.”, and like most of the publisher’s other newly announced series, it takes place in a specific time period as well as locale. Announced on Comic Vine, “E Is For Extinction” is set during the Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely run on “New X-Men” from the early ’00s. The series is written by Chris Burnham(“Batman Incorporated”) with art by Ramon Villalobos(“Original Sins”) and takes its title from the name of the first “New X-Men” storyarc by Morrison and Quitely, which was first released in 2001.
With the return of the black and yellow leather uniforms and characters like Angel and Beak, the new “E Is For Extinction” looks as if it picks up where the original “New X-Men” run left off. Burnham revealed that that’s not entirely true. “It’s almost an alternate timeline version of it,” said Burnham. “It’s almost like another take on events from the first issue and spin wildly out of control from there. It’s not quite a ‘What If…?’ or alternate timeline, it’s just coming out of the ‘Secret Wars’ events.”
Morrison’s run was known for introducing a number of characters that have since gone on to become mainstays of the X-Men universe, like the Stepford Cuckoos and Quentin Quire. In the announcement, Burnham talked a bit about the characters fans can expect to see in this revamped “E Is For Extinction.” “It’s almost everyone that you remember, in varying degrees,” said Burnham. “The only person I don’t think we’re using is Fantomex. He appears so much in the normal comics, in the ‘X-Force’ comics. He’s sort of grown beyond the Morrison/Quitely run, in his own right. But a lot of the other characters, in my perspective at least, I still associate them mostly with Grant’s run. So it’s just about everyone that you want to see will be in there, in some degree or another.”Burnham also gave a little bit of information regarding the tone and mission statement of the new series. “For the last fifty years, mutants have been an oppressed group,” explained Burnham. “As far as this series goes, mutants kind of rule the world. It’s fully known that mutants are better at just about everything compared to humans. It’s really fun to screw around with that idea and not have to worry about what’s happening in the next twenty years. We can really break all sorts of things and have a lot of fun with it and not have to worry about the next creators trying to make these comics.”
Can’t wait! Can’t wait.
