Tom Hardy leaves ‘Suicide Squad’, Jake Gyllenhaal sought to replace
Tom Hardy to Suicide Squad: fuck ya’ll, I’m out. Warner Bros to Jake Gyllenhaal: bruh what you up to?
We suppose it was just too much goodness to have Tom Hardy, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne and Viola Davis in the same superhero movie: Oscar winners, nominees and rising young talents all rubbing shoulders. But alas, one of the biggest of the bunch has dropped out.
THR reports that Tom Hardy has exited the David Ayer directed project. Why? No reasons have been given yet, so feel free to speculate away. Our guess? He’s still filming “The Revenant” alongside Leonardo DiCapriowith Alejandro González Iñárritu, so perhaps he doesn’t want to go from that project straight into “Suicide Squad” which is scheduled to shoot in mid-April. Not to mention Hardy also has to lens the TV series “Taboo” this year and must do press rounds for “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which opens in May. So we’d wager it’s nothing more sinister than scheduling.
So… who can fill Hardy’s shoes in the role of Rick Flagg? The Wrap says Jake Gyllenhaal is being eyed.
Torn, man. On one hand I’m fucking obsessed with Jake Gyllenhaal lately. Prisoners, Nightcrawler, and Enemy are three of my faves over the past year. So yeah! Put him in it! But on the other hand, I don’t really want this to take away from him doing his more esoteric, weird shiz.
